Coconut is the most grown tree in Kerala. Coconut leaves are plaited and used for thatching houses and sheds in rural areas.Plaited coconut leaves are also uses for making baskets, headgears, foodwrappers. Plating of coconut leaves is a cottage industry in Kerala.
The coconut trunk is used for construction and shoring works. The tender Coconut water is used as a refreshing energy drink.The shell is used for making fires and the thick hard shell of coconut is used to make spoons and ladles. Coconut fibres are used to make coir and coir products.
The coconut palm Produces a crown of Pinnately compound Yellow-Green leaves called fronds. Each frond reaches 15-17 feet in length. The coconut tree forms a major part of Kerala. Coconut tree is useful in many ways in the traditional life style of the people of Kerala.
