Wild Mushrooms ( Kerala )

Location: Valillapuzha , Areekode , Malappuram , Kerala

There are 2,000 or more kinds of wild mushrooms in Ohio. Some are poisonous and some are edible and delicious when properly prepared. The edibility of the majority is either not known or they are not considered for food because of their small size or poor flavor or texture.mushroom is the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus, typically produced above ground on soil or on its food source. The standard for the name "mushroom" is the cultivated white button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus; hence the word "mushroom" is most often applied to those fungi (Basidiomycota,Agaricomycetes) that have a stem, a cap , and gills or pores on the underside of the cap.
Even though not every one is interested in collecting mushrooms to eat, it is important to understand most have an important and beneficial role in the environment. They grow in a wide variety of habitats. Most of the mushrooms seen on a walk through a woods are beneficial.
