Summer Rain in Kerala ( India )

IndiaMonsoons bring to Kerala two rainy seasons-the southwest monsoon or the Edavappathi, bringing rains during June-September, and the north east monsoon or the Thulavarsham during October to December.The rainforest areas of the state have humid tropical wet climate while the extreme eastern fringes experience a drier tropical wet and dry climate .Kerala receives an average annual rainfall of 3107 mm.  North East Monsoon in Kerala Also known as Thulaavarsham  hits Kerala during the return of the southwest monsoon winds. These rains are in the months of October and November. outhwest monsoon is the main rainy season in Kerala begins by the end of May or early June with the outset of the southwest monsoon winds.  Relatively higher temperature, low rainfall and slightly humid weather are the characteristics of the summer season (March TO June)  in Kerala

Pookode Lake - Wayanad - Kerala



Pookode Lake is a scenic freshwater lake in Wayanad district, Kerala, India. The lake is surrounded by forests, and boating is allowed. There is a Sree Narayana Ashram near the lake, surrounded by flowering trees and their shades. There was a gallery of painting and sculptures.Now there is only a building there.There is a handicrafts shop near the lake owned by 'Uravu'.From there you can buy variety of household items made of natural materials.There are lot of curious items made of bamboo and coconut husk.Herbal medicines, Tribal medicines and spices are also available. There are groups of Blue water lilly flowers scattered here and there in the lake. Boats are available for rent but visitors are not allowed to touch lilly flowers while boating. Visitors may walk around the lake. There is a children's park and garden nearby.


Indian Laburnum (Cassia fistula) - Kerala


Indian Laburnum (Cassia fistula) known as the golden shower tree and other names, is a flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, native to southern Asia, from southern Pakistan east through India to Myanmar and south to Sri Lanka. It is the national tree of Thailand, and its flower is Thailand's national flower. It is also state flower of Kerala in India and of immense importance amongst Malayali population. It is a popular ornamental plant and is an herbal medicineThe golden shower tree is the state flower of Kerala in India. The flowers are of ritual importance in the Vishu festival of the Kerala state of India.

Wayandu pass ( Kerala, India)


The Wayand pass is the gateway to Wayanad from Kozhikkode. It is 14 km long and covers nine hairpin curves. The pass is surrounded by dense forest. Lakkidi, the gateway of Wayanad, lies atop Thamarassery. This pass connects Wayanad to Kozhickode district.

Snakes in Kerala ( India )

All the major  species of snakes found in India are also found in Kerala. The five common poisonous snakes found in Kerala are Indian Cobra, King Cobra, Russel’s Viper, Saw-scaled viper and Krait. Out of these, Indian Cobra, Russel’s Viper, Saw-scaled viper and Krait are the most dangerous since King Cobra usually habit in dense forests and hence rarely comes in contact with humans.

Bullock cart ( Areekode , Kerala )



Location: Pathanapuram , Areekode - Mukkam road, Kerala

bullock cart or ox cart is a two-wheeled vehicle pulled by oxen (draught cattle). It is a means of transportation used since ancient times in many parts of the world. They are still used today where modern vehicles are too expensive or the infrastructure does not favor them.
Used especially for carrying goods, the bullock cart is pulled by one or several bullocks. The cart is attached to a bullock team by a special chain attached to yokes, but a rope may also be used for one or two animals. The driver and any other passengers sit on the front of the cart, while load is placed in the back.
